Drywall Finisher and Plasterer, 453A, NOC 7284

To help understand the Drywall Finisher and Plasterer trade and prepare for challenging the Red Seal examination, this course contains the following sections which will be taught in the classroom as well as online :

• Description of the Drywall Finisher and Plasterer trade: An overview of the trade’s duties, work environment, job requirements, similar occupations and career progression
• Essential Skills Summary: An overview of how each of the 9 essential skills is applied in this trade
• Industry Expected Performance: description of the expectations regarding the level of performance of the tasks, including information related to specific codes, regulations and standards that must be observed
• Major Work Activity (MWA): the largest division within the course that is comprised of a distinct set of trade activities:

1. Performs safety related functions
2. Uses and maintains tools and equipment
3. Performs common work practices and procedures
4. Prepares for taping
5. Tapes wallboard
6. Finishes wallboard
7. Prepares surfaces for texturing
8. Textures surfaces
9. Applies veneer plaster systems
10. Applies special plaster finishes and specialty coatings
11. Prepares for installation of mouldings (NOT COMMON CORE)
12. Installs mouldings
13. Troubleshoots problems
14. Repairs surfaces
15. Restores old mouldings. (NOT COMMON CORE)
