Excavator Safety Training

Be sure to read all of the material presented here and take notes as you study the module. You will be required to complete a 15-question test at the end of this module.  Only two attempts will be given to pass the exam. You must score an 80% or better on the test before you can proceed to practical training and practical testing. Also be sure that you have watched the entire video on the next page.  

All personnel that wish to operate an excavator for E Light Electric Services, Inc. must successfully complete the following:

1. Study this module and successfully pass the accompanying test with a score of 80% or greater.
2. Receive practical, hands-on training on the specific model of excavator they are operating
3. Complete a successful pre-use inspection according to the Operators Manual while being observed by the Site Safety Manager or Superintendent
4. Successfully operate the excavator that the operator will be using by demonstrating the following to the Site Safety Manager or the Superintendent
   1. Move Forward
   2. Move backwards
   3. Follow Spotter Signals
   4. Extend the bucket
   5. Retract the bucket
   6. Perform a short excavation
   7. Refill the excavation performed

The test score from this test and the rapid observation report from the Site Safety Manager or Superintendent, including pictures or the excavator and manufacturer and model number will need to be emailed to the E and LP Coordinator so that the certification can be properly recorded in the training records.
